OUR APPROACH

ACIEDafrica considers lack of education and skills mismatches to be principal obstacles for young people in labour markets. In Nigeria, lack of proper training has been identified as one of the main reasons why young people do not find jobs. Young people therefore need more comprehensive education that responds to labour market needs, in terms of quality and relevance (including technical and vocational training). While we recognize youth as an integral to the overall global agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), ACIEDafrica is sharpening its focus on inclusive entrepreneurship and employment through Entrepreneurial Skills, Technical Vocational Education and Training. The Centre is at the forefront of forging purposeful labor market integration by strengthening people’s skills and providing them with knowledge, moral and intellectual virtues that form the basis for life-long learning and contribution to the national economic growth. We specifically provide rural and semi-urban youth with training and employment opportunities that help lift them and their families out of poverty. The ACIEDafrica’s core mandates on Entrepreneurship Skills Development in Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) include; Mainstream inclusion principles and practice in entrepreneurship education in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Scheme of the Centre;

i. Provide hands-on training in various technical and vocational areas aimed at imparting skills, attitudes and knowledge required for effective performance in various occupational areas;
ii. Identification of entrepreneurial competencies and occupation-specific skills sets in the areas of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), and implement innovative Live Business Entrepreneurship and social Enterprises Integration Model relevant for industrial, commercial, agro-economic, digital and tech. entrepreneurship etc.;
iii. Promote disability-inclusive skills development in order to ensure that persons with disabilities have the skills as demanded by the labour market;
iv. Lead the advocacy on inclusive entrepreneurship and social innovation in TVET programmes and related policies.

ACIEDafrica tackles youth’s unemployment by:

• Creating inclusive employment/and economic opportunities for self-employed youth as well as the other young people they employ;
• Bringing alienated and marginalized youth including people with disabilities back into the economic mainstream and giving them a sense of meaning and belonging;
• Helping address some of the socio-psychological problems and delinquency that arises from joblessness;
• Helping youth and develop new skills and experiences that can then be applied to other challenges in life;
• Promoting innovation and resilience in youth and women as well as people with disabilities; Promoting the revitalization of the local community by providing valuable goods and services;
• Promoting youth and women’s financial system inclusion in Nigeria
• Capitalizing on the fact that young entrepreneurs may be particularly responsive to new economic opportunities and trends.
